It may be raining outside, but any water in the school hall was down to tears of joy after Oaks Park High School attained its best ever A-level results.

Headteacher Joanne Hamill is very proud of the pupils’ achievements and said it was all down to the combined effort, determination and good working relationships between students, staff and parents at Oaks Lane, Newbury Park.

“It has been a very turbulent year for students across the country with so many changes impacting on their examination experience and outcomes,” she said.

“We are very pleased to have achieved top results again this year, with improvements in many of the key performance measures.”

The school achieved 51per cent A* to B and 77pc A* to C with many students going on to secure places to study medicine, dentistry, maths and economics.

The BTEC results were the best ever achieved, with 92pc of students gaining double distinctions * and double distinctions, with 100pc attaining a merit.

Oaks Park said they would like to congratulate all their students including Sameera Patel who achieved three A*s, Raghav Sharma and Rohan Barua who gained two A*s and an A and Pawan Bhamra, Sankavee Karunakaran and Afroze Yousaf who achieved one A* and two As.

Afroze, 18, said: “I’m really happy with my results and excited to start Kings to study medicine.

Amar Arri, 18, who achieved two As and a C added: “I am pretty happy with my results as I got higher than my predicted grades.

“I am going through adjustment to get a better uni.”

Liam McDonnell, progression and enrichment coordinator, said student’s focus to secure their chosen place has been “outstanding”.

“This is evident in the fact that a record number of students in this year group that have been accepted into some of the most competitive university subjects, including Medicine and Dentistry and into Russell Group universities’,” he said.

The school said it prides itself on being an inclusive school and works hard to ensure all its students meet their full potential, no matter what their ability or background.

Laura Richardson, head of Year 13 added: “Our Aspire Higher programme is unique to Oaks Park and we have developed this in-house, with our students in mind.

“We want to make sure their progression to university, working life or training is successful and appropriate, and Aspire Higher helps them differentiate themselves in a competitive marketplace - Students, parents and universities love it’.
