A South Woodford roundabout which saw more than 30 collisions reported within a two year period is set to undergo four months of works in a bid to improve pedestrian and cyclist safety.

Roadworks for the Transport for London (TfL) scheme to improve Charlie Brown’s roundabout, at the beginning of the M11 motorway, are set to begin on Monday, July 9.

They will take place overnight between 9pm and 5am on Monday to Friday until July 23, between 9am and 9pm over the school summer holidays and 10am to 4pm during term time.

Five pedestrian crossings will be added to the roundabout and the footways around it widened to avoid cyclists having to wait for gaps in traffic to cross the road and allow more space for pedestrians and cyclists.

According to TfL figures, there were 32 collisions on the roundabout between January 2013 and December 2015.

In November 2016, a woman in her 30s was killed at the roundabout in a crash with a lorry.

These works follow on from a TfL consultation in June last year.
