Redbridge Council has failed to collect domestic refuse after heavy snow forced collections to be put on hold.

Glenn Corfield, 64, of Aldborough Road South said: “The council said they weren’t collecting today [Thursday] and that they were doing an assessment to see when the collection would happen”

Mr Corfield put his bins out on Wednesday night ahead of the usual 7am Thursday morning collection, but noticed that the refuse was still on the street that evening and may pose a health and safety hazard in the inclement weather.

“You expect this over the holidays, but you don’t expect them to do nothing at all”

“I hoped they would come on Friday, but the bins are still on the street”

Mr Corfield contacted the council three times to check on the weather assessment status.

He said: “The snow is melting and the paths have been swept”

Redbridge Council published a statement on Friday that said: “Despite the adverse weather conditions, our refuse and recycling collection team is out today (Friday, March 2) attempting to collect as much of the scheduled work as possible.”

The council’s statement came ahead of BBC Weather reports that the cold will continue tonight with a risk of ice once more, with further spells of snow at first but easing later on.

The council said: “We will also attempt to catch up on as much of yesterdays’ scheduled collections as possible.

“Those properties which do not receive a collection as part of our attempted catch up by the end of today should present all of their refuse and recycling as normal on their next scheduled day of collection and everything will be taken.”
