Items linked to missing Seyed Khan have been found in Ilford Cemetery more than a week after he disappeared from his job.
The 49-year-old was last seen at work in A-Z carpets, 717-719 High Road, at around 5pm on January 24.
Officers have been searching the cemetery since 9.30pm last night and items relating to the investigation have been picked up, an officer confirmed.
Forensic officers and a search team with police dogs are currently at the scene.
A Met Police spokesman said: “This was in relation to a number of items that had been discovered in or around the Ilford Cemetery area that are linked to the investigation into the whereabouts of Seyed Khan.
“Officers will be at the scene again this morning, and we cannot reveal any more details at this time.”
Seyed, 49, stepped outside his workplace on January 24 to take a phone call and has not been seen or heard from since.
He is described as an Asian man, around 5ft 9ins tall, of medium build with short black hair.
At the time of his disappearance he was wearing blue jeans, a black jacket and grey trainers.
The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command has taken over the investigation in to his whereabouts under the supervision of Detective Inspector Richard Leonard.
