A Redbridge police officer jetted off on holiday when she had told bosses she would be taking a relative to a medical appointment, a tribunal heard.

PC Rae Layzell, from the Metropolitan Police had no annual leave left and so inappropriately applied to take carer’s leave on August 28 2016, the hearing was told.

Instead she took a pre-booked flight on September 30 to go on holiday.

On a separate occasion, Layzell allegedly claimed that a flight she was booked on October 8 had been delayed and then cancelled, leaving her stranded abroad.

An investigation found there were no cancellations or delays from the airport that day and Layzell had instead missed the flight.

At a two-day hearing, Layzell faced allegations that her conduct amounted to a breach of the Met’s standards of professional behaviour in respect of honesty and integrity, discreditable conduct and duties and responsibilities.

On Tuesday, January 30, it was found that Layzell had breached the standards of professional behaviour.

The chair of the hearing, having considered all of the evidence, found one case of gross misconduct and one case of misconduct proven

Layzell, who did not attend the two-day hearing, was subsequently dismissed without notice.
