Iain Duncan Smith MP has wasted no time in getting involved in community issues by meeting with campaigners fighting to repair a playground after his reelection.
A petition, started by mother-of-two Nicole Wyndham, 43, of Abbotsford Garden, in Woodford Green, signed by 800 people, calling for the Woodford playground to be repaired, was handed to Redbridge Council last year.
The site opposite Churchfields Infant and Junior School, in Churchfields, gets waterlogged, and is said to be “dangerous”, according to Mr Duncan Smith.
He said: “The playground is dangerous with uneven surfaces, bumps in the surfaces, dips and holes.
“It is frequently flooded at different times of the year and this is unacceptable, a solution needs to be found.”
The MP for Chingford and Woodford Green said the playground needed investment to set things right.
The council invested £80,000 in the park in 2009.
A Redbridge Council overview committee in April agreed that a working group will be set up to look into issues at the playground.
“I don’t agree that the council will find it difficult to fund as it wouldn’t cost too much,” added Mr Duncan Smith.
