Redbridge has been given nearly £4million for new housing projects across the borough.
A new supported living complex for elderly people will be built in Loxford Lane, Ilford, with £2.5m from the Greater London Authority’s care and support specialised housing fund.
A mixture of 60 one and two-bedroom homes are planned with support facilities on the former Hyleford care home site.
Cllr Michelle Dunn, the cabinet member for housing said: “This funding will help to increase the supply of quality purpose-built affordable homes for older people in the borough.
“We know there is still a lot of work to do but we look forward to seeing the work start.”
A programme to build affordable homes for rent and bring empty homes back into use is also planned with £1.2m funding as part of the Mayor’s Housing Covenant.
