A dead ginger cat was discovered in a tied-up bin bag in the middle of the road in Ilford.
The RSPCA is appealing for information about the “distressing” finding made in Colinton Road by a member of the public at about 10.20am on October 9.
RSPCA animal rescue officer Nick Jonas said: “This was a distressing discovery for the member of the public who found this poor cat tied up in a bin bag.
“They were concerned about the circumstances of the cat’s death as there were scratches and tears along the bin bag the cat was found in.”
Mr Jonas said a vet has confirmed the cat had no obvious injuries or illness – except a severe neck dislocation.
The young, long-haired ginger was also not microchipped, making tracing the owners more difficult.
“We are keen to find out what happened to this poor cat and would ask anyone with information to please call,” he added.
The RSPCA’s inspectorate appeal line is on 0300 123 8018.
