A drunk Metropolitan Police officer who got in a fight after calling an e-scooter rider a c*** has been sacked.
PC Liam Robinson faced a misconduct hearing on June 6 after an incident which took place in July 2021.
At around 2.20am on the morning of the incident, PC Robinson was off-duty and intoxicated when a local bar manager who had just finished work drove past on an e-scooter, it heard.
PC Robinson shouted at him and called him a c*** at which point the e-scooter rider said words to the effect of “there is no need for that”, the misconduct hearing was told.
The officer told the man it was illegal to ride an e-scooter.
The hearing was told that the man replied that it is not up to him to decide what is legal, it is for the police.
At this point PC Robinson showed his warrant card and quoted parts of the Road Traffic Act.
The man took two photos of PC Robinson’s group, which angered two of them, a panel heard.
PC Robinson then came forward to take the scooter from the rider.
A fight broke out during which punches were thrown and the e-scooter rider called 999, it was told.
The misconduct panel said: “In this case the officer's conduct could properly be seen as bullying and harassing to a member of the public.
“The confrontation between him and [the e-scooter rider] could have de-escalated but instead a fight has broken out.”
At the misconduct hearing PC Robinson expressed his remorse.
However, the panel decided that his behaviour amounted to gross misconduct and he was dismissed without notice.
