North East London NHS Foundation Trust (NELFT) has been charged with corporate manslaughter in relation to a 22-year-old patient's death at Goodmayes Hospital.
Alice Figueiredo died at the hospital on July 7, 2015 prompting a criminal investigation which began in April 2016.
NELFT has now been charged with corporate manslaughter and an offence under section 3 of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Additionally, ward manager Benjamin Aninakwa, 52, of St Francis Way in Grays, has been charged with gross negligence manslaughter and an offence under section 7 of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
Met Police said these charges came after a file of evidence was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service in March 2021.
Aninakwa and representatives of NELFT will appear at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on Wednesday October 4.
Alice’s family have been informed of the decision to charge.
