A man arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a crash that left a pedestrian fighting for his life has been released on bail.

Police confirmed today (September 19) that the driver has been bailed to mid-December after a crash in Winston Way, Ilford, on Saturday (September 16).

The injuries sustained by the pedestrian are now thought not to be life-threatening, police added.

Officers were called to Winston Way shortly before 2am on Saturday.

The London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance also attended after it was reported that a car had hit a pedestrian.

The man was immediately rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition.

A police spokesperson previously said officers were working to identify him and inform his family.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old man, was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving, but has since been bailed.
