One of London’s most popular Indian restaurants will open a new site in Battersea Power Station next month.
Based on the old Irani cafes of Bombay, when Dishoom opens at the south west London precinct, it will be the first south London site for the brand.
Dishoom Battersea will open officially on December 6 on Electric Boulevard, which is right next to the iconic building.
With restaurants already in Kensington, Carnaby, Shoreditch, King’s Cross, Covent Garden and Canary Wharf, this new site will be the chain’s seventh venue in the capital and the 10th across the UK.
Dishoom co-founder Shamil Thakrar said: “I am a proud Londoner, and Battersea Power Station is one of those few genuinely iconic London buildings.
“When I was growing up, my father would endlessly lecture me on the importance of the Power Station and its provision of power for the city – I can’t quite believe we’re in the fortunate position to be opening right beside it. I’m genuinely thrilled.”
Dishoom Battersea will have room enough for 235 people, and similar to the other locations its interiors will have nostalgic nods to Bombay. They will also feature comic book motifs.
The dog-friendly restaurant (the only canine friendly Dishoom) will run a soft launch from November 27 to December 5.
Available to bookings and walk ins, the soft launch offer knocks 50 per cent off your food bill, whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Diners can feast on a bacon naan roll for a light but satiating breakfast or try a Parsi omelette made up of three eggs, chopped tomato, onion, spices and cheese for heavier start to the day.
Many of the Dishoom classics will be available at the Battersea location, including the house chaat, chicken tikkas, spicy lamb chops and gunpowder potatoes.
It will also feature a special Bhatti chicken, which is similar to Tandoori chicken as it is also cooked with fire, yet it is marinated in black spices which give it an earthy, smoky flavour and distinctive dark hue.
When it opens you can find the restaurant at 42 Electric Boulevard Battersea, SW11 8BJ. Bookings are now open at dishoom.com
