A station car park has been shut for most of the year despite building works on a new block of flats having not yet started.
Snaresbrook station car park closed at the end of March after plans to build 74 new homes on the site were approved by Redbridge Council.
But eagle-eyed locals will have noticed that construction work on the six-storey block has not yet started despite the seven month closure.
Housing provider Pocket Living, which is working in partnership with Transport for London (TfL) to deliver the development, has now been forced to defend its decision to shut the car park.
A spokesperson said that the closure has allowed the provider to undertake “enabling works to prepare for construction”.
They added that car parking spaces should still be available for Blue Badge users throughout the building works.
The car park is not expected to be reopened until the end of 2026, when the new block of flats will have been built.
In total, almost 100 parking bays will be axed, with just 22 car spaces remaining for commuters to use, including the existing four Blue Badge parking spaces.
Full details of the plans can be found on Redbridge Council's planning portal under reference 3852/22.
