In the wake of Saturday’s knife attack in neighbouring Leytonstone Redbridge Police said they had not altered their police presence.
Deputy borough commander Det Supt Mandy Beacher told the Recorder at a press briefing: “As a result of that isolated incident we have not changed our policing plan.
“Obviously British Transport Police have increased presence around the transport hubs but nothing has changed in terms of local police.”
A 56-year-old man was stabbed at Leytonstone Tube station on Saturday evening.
Witnesses claimed the attacker shouted “This is for Syria” as he knifed the victim – who remains in hospital.
John Cryer, the Labour MP for Leyton and Wanstead, said: “Before people draw conclusions about the motivations, they have to wait for the police to investigate this.
“People are shocked but they’re determined to try and continue normally and they won’t let it change the way they see the world.
“Local businesses haven’t allowed it to change the way they see things and they have taken things in their stride.
“Public safety concerns have become more apparent in the past few years and particularly since Paris.”
Muhaydin Mire, 29, of Sansom Road, Leytonstone appeared at Westminster Magistrates Court this morning charged with attempted murder.
He will appear at the Old Bailey for a hearing on Friday.
