The sun outside might not be shining but talented young musicians will bring the spirit of summer to the borough next week.

Although the weather might not hold up its side of the bargain, the annual summer music festival by Redbridge Music Service promises to be a highlight in the social calendar.

Helen Mason, head of performing arts, said the young musicians have been working extremely hard.

She said: “It’s very exciting.

“There’s quite a range of performers, from the ages of eight up to 18 years old, and it’s been a very busy year for them.

“From performing at the Royal Albert Hall to these concerts next week, it has been non-stop.”

The festival features three nights of concerts, next Tuesday to Thursday, at Redbridge Town Hall, in High Road, Ilford

The first performance will include the intermediate choir, and junior members of the music school.

The following show will include the borough’s brass band and jazz orchestra, and intermediate members of the orchestra and wind band.

The final performance, on June 30, will feature the music school’s symphonic band and symphony orchestra.

There will also be a presentation for the annual Music School Awards.

Earlier this year, the service was transferred to Vision, the council’s culture and leisure arm which runs the borough’s libraries.

The transfer sparked controversy from community group Friends of Redbridge Music Service, who opposed the change.

Now Helen said she hopes the concert will celebrate the hard work that has been going on.

She said: “Staff and students have been working very hard ahead of the concert, as they always do.

“This is a celebration of all the good work that has been going on.”

All the concerts will start at 7.30pm, with entry £6 for adults and £5 for concessions.
