South Woodford bowler sees off Lichkin
The Group 5 Finals are this Sunday, but one of the finals took place on Tuesday night at Old Dagenham.
The two-wood final saw Peter Barham of South Woodford take on Wanstead Central’s Terry Lichkin in a high quality match that was nip and tuck for the first half.
Lichkin has had an excellent season as a lead in his club’s county senior fours team, while Barham has also been in great form.
The players were locked at 3-3 and then 6-6 as neither could force a real advantage, but when Lichkin slipped ahead by 8-7, the game suddenly turned Barham’s way.
The South Woodford man went ahead by 9-8 and won seven of the next eight ends to put him in front by 17-9.
That became 20-11 and despite a late fightback from Lichkin, Barham got over the line by 21-14 to take the title.
Barham will be looking to make it a double when he takes on Paul Whellams in the Champion of Champions event on Sunday.
