Netball squad successful in Jersey

Sixteen young Redbridge primary school netballers travelled to Jersey last weekend and returned home undefeated with two trophies.

The girls, who play in two teams, Redbridge Blue and Redbridge White, played three matches each against Jersey schools and won them all convincingly.

Then the girls played ‘The Big Match’ against the Jersey Island teams, in front of a large crowd at the Fort Regent sports centre in St Helier.

The Whites drew 9-9, while the Blues won 17-11, and both teams came away with trophies in the annual tournament which has been running for over 20 years.

Captains Merechi Egbo and Nina McCausland received the trophies from the President of Jersey Netball and Merechi was awarded player-of-the-match for the Blues by Jersey Netball.

Jaida Simpson received the player-of-the-match prize for the Whites.

The girls, coached by Liz Pierce and Karen Ledwith, are now training hard at Caterham High School for the tournament season which starts next month.
